H₂S - Hydrogen sulfide, produces an unpleasant "rotten egg" odor in the water. The odor may be noticeable when the water is initially turned on or when hot water is run, high temperature forces the gas into the air.Hydrogen sulfide gas is found in naturally in some groundwater, formed by decomposing underground organic matter such as decaying plant material. H2S can be flammable and poisonous; it is not a health risk at small concentrations. Hydrogen sulfide's presence in drinking water when released in confined areas has been known to cause illness and in extreme cases even death.
